As Letting Negotiator Lauren Evans gets set for the Cambridge Half Marathon, we quiz her on the progress so far.

1. What inspired you to run the Cambridge Half Marathon?

I wanted to do the half marathon to raise awareness for the Arthur Rank Hospice. It is a small Cambridge based hospice for patients with life threatening illness. They offer support which could not be given at home. When thinking of ways to fundraise for them, I knew I wanted to do something that I would find challenging but also achievable. Also being a Cambridge charity, I thought that the Cambridge Half Marathon would be fitting. Before starting training, I had previously only ran 5km!

2. Why did you choose the Arthur Rank Hospice?

Arthur Rank Hospice gave my mum end of life care when it got too much for me and my brother Miles to cope with. We no longer had the facilities at home to give mum the care she needed. They supported us as a family for 2 and a half months, with round the clock care, constant attention and support for us all. Without Arthur Rank we would not have been able to enjoy the last moments with her as much as we did as the stress and taking on the role of the carer would have been too much.

3. How is training going?

Training is well underway with my longest run now reaching 10km. I try to do 3 runs a week, 2 short runs to build strength and a longer run for endurance and stamina

4. How is fundraising going?

I have been overwhelmed with the support and the donations that have been made so far. I cried when we reach the target within 48 hours, just knowing how many people want to help and who knew my mum!

Arthur Rank need as much finding as possible. When we used the Hospice, they had enough space to have 28 patients, however, only have the funding for 14. It costs £472 per day to fund one day time patient (10am – 7pm) to give families some respite care.

5. How long have you worked with RAH?

I have been with RAH since July 2019 (one of the newest members!) and I am currently working as a Lettings Negotiator.
